The O.c. Railroad is a club comprised of members who are engaged in the construction of a G (Fn3) scale layout based roughly on the narrow gauge lines of Colorado.  When completed it will be comprised of 1000’s of feet of track and will include multiple towns, and industries and will have 4 tunnels, mountains and at least two water features.   The layout also has been designed with sidewalks and benches to facilitate its use and observation by the public.  It is the intent of the members that the layout will always be available for people to run trains or view train operations with no admission charge.  The layout is located on the property of Kenneth Hackman northwest of Jefferson City, Missouri.  About 1/3 of what has been planned has been constructed to date with the railroad being the recipient of gifts of construction materials from Lowes, Quaker Windows, Rusk Home Improvement, etc. and a lot of volunteer labor.   The layout is designed for the running of locomotives that are battery powered or live steam.

It is the intent of the O.c. Railroad for the layout to provide a means of diverting the attention of young people from gang activity, drugs, and alcohol through the enjoyment of model railroading.  We offer opportunities for youth to be involved in the construction of the layout, buildings, etc.  When operational, the layout will provide the opportunity for youth to run trains and, due to the sophisticated design of the layout, will also be instructive in the details of actual railroad operations.  To encourage youth participation, contacts have been made to bring school groups out to see the O.c. Railroad even as it is being constructed.  We also hope to involve the local Boys and Girls Clubs and the Big Brother, Big Sister programs.  The O.c. railroad will also make itself available to be reserved for group events in addition to being available for general public use.
